Defense Minister Nuria Esparch on Monday reported that almost half a million Peruvians have been administered the COVID-19 vaccine nationwide and called on the population to keep observing the measures adopted to fight this pandemic.

In a press conference held at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the government official noted that vaccination teams are doing a thorough job throughout the territory in order to immunize the population.

"So far, nearly half a million people have been vaccinated. Up to now, 485,886 people have received the vaccine nationwide among healthcare workers, police staff, Armed Forces members, and elderly people," she said.

According to the Cabinet member, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) is implementing a territorial vaccination strategy, which will allow the inclusion of all elderly people.

"No person at risk within this group will be left out of the immunization process," she emphasized.

The minister noted that the territorial vaccination process is considering districts that have been worst hit by COVID-19, as well as the most vulnerable people.

In this sense, in the following days, the immunization will continue in the districts of Comas and Downtown Lima, among other areas, as the vaccines continue to arrive.

She went on to say that Minsa has delivered 3,510 Pfizer vaccine doses to San Martin, Lamas, Moyobamba, and Rioja in San Martin region to immunize Pension 65 Program beneficiaries.
