A British tourist, who went missing in late May during a hike through Yanachaga Chemillen National Park (Pasco region), has been found dead, National Service of Natural Protected Areas (Sernanp) said Thursday.

Elizabeth Mary Orchard's body was found at the head of Sotomayor ravine, 1.5 km away from San Alberto town, where she was reported missing.

The British citizen disappeared last weekend after entering the national park with her sister and another companion.

Police, firefighters, and park rangers started a search as soon as her sister reported the disappearance.

According to local authorities, Orchard got separated from the group and hadn't been seen since.

The Yanachaga Chemillen National Park has an extension of 122,000 hectares. The area is covered by Andean mountains and boasts a remarkably biodiverse array of species.
