on Monday night arrived in Peru's northern Tumbes region, where he supervised border control actions carried out by the Peruvian National Police on the border with Ecuador to prevent the illegal entry of migrants into national territory.
This was reported by the
Interior Ministry (Mininter), which specified that the
sector's head reached the Aguas Verdes sector, where he visited the local police station. There,
he verified the services provided by the Peruvian National Police on the border with Ecuador.
While in the area, the high-ranking official verified the police deployment on the International Bridge, which connects Huaquillas, in Ecuador, with Aguas Verdes, in Peru; and on the banks of the (river) channel, where some foreign migrants attempt to enter Peru illegally.
Afterwards, Minister Romero visited the Zarumilla police station, where he supervised the delivery of bodycams to strengthen the implementation of operations and intelligence. The unit also features a video surveillance circuit.
"We are working to improve security services in Tumbes. Our goal is peace and governability in the country. Let's continue working together hand-in-hand with the police, authorities, and neighborhood councils," the official expressed.
The Tumbes Police Front head, General Javier Manuel Gonzales Novoa, thanked the minister for his visit and that of his delegation. He said that this action represents a special motivation to continue working and providing security to citizens.
Moreover, he spoke about the surveillance that takes place at the border.
For his part, Aguas Verdes Mayor Cesar Enrique Chapoñan reiterated his gratitude for the vehicle that will serve to reinforce patrolling and provide greater security to this border area.
During the event, the Agua Verdes mayor presented the Citizen Security brigades, which have joined in reinforcing border control, in response to the presence of foreigners who assault locals in the middle of the border line.
Meanwhile, the local Neighborhood Councils representative thanked the Peruvian National Police members based in the area for their support.
Lastly, Minister Romero thanked them for collaborating with the police and strengthening security in Aguas Verdes.
"The Neighborhood Councils are unconditional allies of the police and their work is invaluable," he concluded.
