Lima 2019: Peru's main airport prepares to welcome athletes from the Americas

15:30 | Lima, Jul. 17.

Lima Airport Partners (LAP) and the main entities operating at Jorge Chavez International Airport conducted several drills to optimize the arrival and departure flow of sporting delegations at the main point of entry to the South American nation.

The procedures were part of the preparations to receive the best athletes and Para athletes participating at Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games.

LAP undertook the following actions to assist the incoming delegations and the Lima 2019 team:

-Inclusion of special flows at the terminal for more than 10,000 athletes and technical officials, considering that nearly 800 athletes will be using wheelchairs.

-Incorporation of additional personnel such as airport guides and volunteers, who will provide guidance and timely information.

-Development of an app to improve the assistance to athletes and passengers during their stay at the terminal. The app includes a special module designed to guide —thanks to Wayfinding technology— people with visual impairment.

-Setting up of special areas at the international baggage reclaim hall to facilitate the delivery of athletes' and Lima 2019 staff's belongings.

-Introduction of remote check-in, a tool that will allow athletes and their luggage to check-in 24-48 hours in advance. Airlines will be in charge of transporting the baggage to be carried on respective flights.

Pamela Moreno, operations manager at LAP, underscored that Jorge Chavez International Airport will be the first host of the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games.
