Peruvian Jorge Arcela claimed a silver medal in Shooting Para sport's Mixed's 10m Air Rifle Prone SH1 Final at Lima 2019 Pan American Games.

The Ayacucho-born reached second position in the 10-meter competition that was defined in the last shot.

The Peruvian Para athlete is a role model because he was able to overcome death when crime tried to put an end to his life, during his time of police service in northern Trujillo City. Later, he managed to recover and now gives Peru a joy.

"I want to thank my family, who was always by my side, for this medal. Thanks to Ayacucho, my land. Thank God for all your blessings. This is for Peru and all those who accompanied me," said Arcela in tears.

The silver claimed by Arcela became the third medal won by the Peruvian representatives in Lima 2019 and the second silver, after the medal won by Luis Sandoval in Para athletics. The bronze one was taken by Fred Villalobos in Para Judo.

The other Peruvian representative, who reached the final stage (Milagros Palomino), finished seventh.

The event took place at Las Palmas Air Base.
