Countries in Latin America will request an urgent meeting of the Organization of American States' (OAS) Permanent Council to issue a resolution aimed at safeguarding the popular will in Venezuela, within the framework of the Democratic Charter and the fundamental principles of democracy in our region.

The governments of Argentina, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, the Dominican Republic, Uruguay, and Chile issued a statement expressing their deep concern about the conduct of the presidential elections held in abovementioned country last Sunday.

In addition, the signatory nations demand a full review of election results in Venezuela.

They also pointed out that this action must take place with the presence of independent electoral observers who ensure respect for the will of the Venezuelan people who participated massively and peacefully in the electoral act.

The vote counting must be transparent and the results must not cast any doubts, reads the document.
