Five of the
six foreigners accused of damaging the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu in Cusco were brought to Juliaca city in Puno region to be expelled from the country, pursuant to a resolution issued by the National Superintendence of Migrations.
The expelled tourists are Magdalena Abril Retamal (Argentina, age: 20); Leandro Sactiva (Argentina, age: 32); Favian Eduardo Vera Vergara (Chile, age: 30); Marion Lucie Martinez (France, age: 26); Cristiano da Silva Ribiero (Brazil, age: 30).
They were transported by bus last night escorted by state security agents.
As for Nahuel Gomez (Argentina, age: 28), the Machu Picchu Court decided to impose an appearance with restrictions measure on him and ordered the payment of a bail of S/3,000 (about US$901) in favor of the State, which is due on Friday, January 17.
According to Roger Solis Ochia, representative of the Migrations office in Cusco, the foreigners are being sent to the Peru-Bolivia border and will not be allowed to return for 15 years.
"This is a joint work between the Migrations office and the National Police. The latter is in charge of the expulsion," he said.
It must be noted that during the drive to the bus terminal and while entering the bus, locals reproached their attitude and asked them to respect the country.
As is known, six tourists —four males and two females from different countries— were arrested last Sunday accused of entering the
Inca citadel of Machu Picchu illegally, provoking the fall of a stone, and defecating within the site.
Wardens and police officers conducted the intervention at the Temple of the Sun viewpoint that day at 5:50 AM.
The group included tourists from Argentina, Chile, Brazil, and France.
