FocusEconomics: Peru's consumer confidence increased in December 2018

09:04 | Lima, Jan. 18.

Peru's consumer confidence indicator published jumped from 94 in November to 99 in December, marking the best result since October 2017, the latest FocusEconomics' LatinFocus Consensus Forecast report informed.

Therefore, the index almost hit the critical 100-point threshold that separates pessimism from optimism among the Inca country's consumers; it had been under the mark since 2017.

The reading —possibly boosted by increased government approval— reflected notable improvements in both consumers' expectations over their personal financial situation in the next 12 months and their expectations on the economy over the same time horizon.

Likewise, the indicator also registered an increase in the number of respondents who think it is a good time to buy a house or household appliances.

"Panelists expect private consumption to grow 3.8% in 2019, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month's forecast," FocusEconomics expressed.

"For 2020, panel participants see consumer spending growing 3.9%," it concluded.
