Coronavirus (COVID-19) does not only affect the health of some Peruvians. It also has a negative impact on sports in the country.

Within this framework, the Pan American Judo Confederation has decided to cancel the Continental Open tournaments in Lima (Peru) and Santiago (Chile) as a measure to prevent the disease from spreading.

The events were supposed to provide athletes with qualifying points for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

The document —signed by Pan American Judo Confederation Chairman Manuel Larrañaga— confirms that all events initially scheduled for the time frame from March 9 to April 30, 2020, have been canceled by decision of the International Judo Federation.

It is worth mentioning that the Bariloche Pan American Open, held last weekend in Argentina, has been the last scoring tournament to date. Six Peruvians managed to claim medals in their participation.
