FIFA issues new warning to Peru soccer federation

10:28 | Lima, Oct. 12.

FIFA has warned again of a possible suspension of the Peruvian Soccer Federation (FPF) if the Inca country's congress changes a law affecting statutes of the local soccer governing body.

FPF Secretary-General Juan Matute on Thursday received an email from FIFA stating a suspension may occur if said law is changed.

According to FIFA, the repeal or modification of said act could interrupt the on-going review of FPF statutes and the progress made in this respect.

Should this happen, Peru would not be able to play official matches or friendlies against other international teams.

Also, the Incas would not be allowed to participate at Copa Libertadores nor would they play at Copa Sudamericana.

Peru may miss the chance to host FIFA U-17 World Cup next year as well.

As is known, the Congress Sports Committee decided to modify Article 5 of the law, which extended FPF Chairman Edwin Oviedo's term by another two years to 2022.

Oviedo had allegedly given monthly sums of money to Supreme Judge Cesar Hinostroza in exchange for judicial favors.
