Representatives of Brazilian companies and of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) are visiting the Amazon region of San Martin to share experiences on improving cotton production in this region.
The visit of the delegation is held as part of the Brazil-FAO International Cooperation Program in Peru, according to FAO office in Lima.
The objective is to promote the development of family farms producing cotton, increase productivity and income, as well as reduce poverty and hunger.
The delegation is comprised of representatives of Brazil's Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa), Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, FAO's Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean and a FAO technical group in Peru.
It is important to FAO to strengthen the cotton sector as it generates income and create jobs that help to achieve food and nutrition security and improve the quality of life of the population.
