Defense Min: Cabinet fully focused on health of Peruvians

14:53 | Lima, Jun. 1.

Defense Minister Walter Martos on Monday affirmed that the Ministerial Cabinet is fully focused on protecting the health and life of Peruvians, within the framework of the state of emergency due to the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country.

Remarks were made after the launch of Tayta Operation (Territorial Aid Operation for Treatment and Isolation in Response to COVID-19) carried out in the Manzanilla neighborhood of downtown Lima.

The event saw the presence of Health Minister Victor Zamora and Lima Mayor Jorge Muñoz.

When asked about the resignation of Culture Minister Sonia Guillen over the hiring of singer Richard Cisneros, Martos noted that the Government has always selected staff based on their achievements and professional experience.

"Any other isolated event has to be handled by each sector," the minister stated.

Regarding Tayta Operation, he said it aims to protect the most vulnerable population in high-risk areas, such as adults aged over 60 and people with comorbidity problems.
