China to donate 1,000 coronavirus detection reagents to Peru

00:00 | Lima, Mar. 11.

The Government of the People’s Republic of China has formally told the Peruvian International Cooperation Agency (APCI) that China-based Beijing Genomics Institute (BGI) and Mammoth Foundation have offered to donate reagents to perform rapid tests for the diagnosis of coronavirus (COVID-19).

The donation includes 1,000 reagents for COVID-19 detection, which will help confirm infection in suspected cases, lead to their isolation, and —therefore— boost prevention.

Said reagent was developed on January 14, 2020, in China by Beijing Genomics Institute (BGI) and is able to identify coronavirus in 3 hours.

This product has been approved by the Chinese Health Authority and has obtained a permission for sale in the European Union.

As at March 6, BGI had produced 1,140,000 reagents (in doses for personal use), which are widely used in China and are being exported to Japan, Thailand, Egypt, Brunei, the United Arab Emirates, and other 30 countries around the world, with the technical support for users.

"The Government and people of China are willing to continue to actively support Peru in its fight against coronavirus. The Chinese Embassy in Peru will maintain close coordination and cooperation with the Ministry of Health with the aim of jointly protecting health and well-being of both peoples," the statement to APCI read.
