The number of
formal jobs in the private sector increased by 3.8% in 2019, according to figures provided by Sunat's electronic payroll system, Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCR) reported.
It is worth noting that formal employment in the private sector grew 4.0% in December 2019, thus extending the improving trend seen since May of the same year.
Sectors
BCR stated that services, farming and trade sectors witnessed the highest increase in the number of formal private sector jobs in December.
In addition, these were the most dynamic segments in terms of creation of jobs throughout the year.
The services sector, which produces the largest number of jobs, expanded 3.9% in 2019.
According to data provided by the National Household Survey (ENAHO), the employed population nationwide rose by 439,000 people between October and December last year, up 2.6% over the same period in 2018.
