Canadian cooperation transfers platform for environmental assessment to Peru's Senace

14:23 | Lima, Feb. 18.

The National Environmental Certification Service for Sustainable Investments (Senace) on Thursday received the computerized platform EVA —a tool for digital assessment of environmental impact studies— which brings efficiency, transparency, and social trust to this process, while implying a model of modernization in the State.

The transfer marked the consolidation of the link to the Canadian cooperation which —through the Megam Project— implemented the project to create and maintain EVA, since 2018, with positive results that are known today: a 100% digital, comprehensive, efficient, and transparent evaluation that promotes interoperability, among its main benefits.

Thus, as of January, the computerized platform of the Single Window of Environmental Certification —managed by Senace— has generated 71,823 documents and 34,163 files, and registers other 298, which are managed by investment project holders and consulting firms.

Strengthening

The National Environmental Certification Service for Sustainable Investments (Senace) explained that its portal has strengthened citizen participation, as it registers 128,161 citizen consultations.

Moreover, it promotes trust and safeguards the rights of populations affected by the projects.

In addition, the site is available 24 hours a day all year round, on any device with internet connection.

"The EVA platform allows Senace to reinforce its institutional mission and strategic goals of conducting environmental assessment of investment projects with a significant improvement in the process and achievement of results, which is relevant for Peru's progress," Senace CEO Alberto Barandiaran expressed.

Facilitative mechanism

Canadian Ambassador to Peru Ralph Jansen affirmed that EVA facilitated the continuation of operations amid the COVID-19 pandemic and ratifies Senace's leadership in responsible investment processes and respect for the environment.

The virtual ceremony was attended by Deputy Environmental Management Minister Mariano Castro —on behalf of the Minister— representatives of the Megam Project and the Cowater-Sogema consortium, as well as professionals from Senace and the Environment Ministry.
