During the 25th edition of Peru Moda Deco 2023, held from October 19 to 20, business expectations worth US$82.8 million were generated, representing a 17% increase compared to the previous year's edition (US$70.5 million), the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism (PromPeru) has reported.

The negotiated amount for this year's edition was obtained via surveys conducted on the event's 200 participating exporters.

Of the importing companies present at Peru Moda Deco, 52% came from the Americas, followed by 35% from Europe and 13% from Asia.

Furthermore, the fair featured another 200 Peruvian companies with export potential. Ten of them relied on the Fair Trade Practices Certification, issued by PromPeru.

Out of the total participating Peruvian companies, 43% were micro and small enterprises, and 19% were new ones.

Similarly, 66% of them came from Lima and 34% from 11 different regions, including Arequipa, Cusco, Ayacucho, Junin, and Loreto.

Fifteen of the participating companies were part of the "Gamarra Exporting Route" —a program through which the conglomerate's companies received training related to design, export costs, and international negotiations to complete the business cycle with their participation at Peru Moda Deco.

International buyers

Prior to this business meeting, a breakfast with international buyers was held. At this event, the strengths and capabilities of the Peruvian clothing and decoration industry were showcased.

The event was attended by professional buyers who received firsthand information about the textile industry from Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Juan Carlos Mathews; PromPeru's Executive-President Angelica Matsuda; Peruvian Association of Garment Exporters (Prevex) member Cesar Tello; and International Alpaca Association (AIA) Chairman Juan Pepper.

Additionally, from October 17 to 18, a 360-degree (culinary, tourism, and fashion) experience was organized for 18 proprietary brands from North America and Europe. They had the opportunity to get acquainted with Peru's offerings prior to their participation in the business round.

Finally, from October 21 to 25, the "Inward Mission to Regions" took place, during which international specialized buyers visited different Peruvian regions to get to know the value chain of prioritized textile sectors.

This included visits to the southern regions specializing in alpaca clothing and visits to the eastern region so as to identify commercial proposals in the decoration and gift shop sector.
