Baseball, surfing, and soccer in Lima 2019 mode

11:30 | Lima, Mar. 25.

The countdown begins. In the final face-offs before the Pan American and Para-Pan American Games, several sports continue to finalize their qualifiers for this continental sporting and multi-disciplinary event.

In this context, the team sports already know which countries will participate in Lima 2019

For baseball, Canada, Colombia, the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua became the last four teams to qualify in a tournament played in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Regarding surfing, the International Surfing Association (ISA) confirmed that five world champions will be in Lima 2019 to compete for the gold and pursue qualification to the Olympic Games of Tokyo 2020. Among them stands Peruvian Benoit "Piccolo" Clemente, Ambassador of Lima 2019 and Longboard World Champion of 2013.

The champions also include Argentinean Santiago Muñiz, gold medalist in the World Surfing Games 2018; the two-time winner of the golden medal at the ISA World Surfing Games, Puerto Rican Tia Blanco; four-time SUP Racing gold medalist Candice Appleby; and the winner, twice in a row, of the gold medal in SUP Surfing, Brazilian Luiz Diniz.

With them, a total of 88 surfers will take part in the competition that will play out along the legendary beach of Punta Rocas, the setting for the World Championship in 1965, where Peruvian Felipe Pomar secured his place as champion.

The athletes qualified for the Pan American Games by passing through a process defined by ISA and the Pan American Surfing Association (PASA), which included a combination of competitions such the Pan American held last year, the tour of the Association of Paddlesurf Professionals and the competitions of the ALAS Tour.

The Pan American men's soccer competition, which will take place in the remodeled San Marcos Stadium, is also quickly approaching. Ecuador, champion of the South American Sub 20 of Chile, as well as Argentina and Uruguay, second and third, have all qualified.

They will be candidates for the medals in the same competition in which the United States, Jamaica and Panama, the qualifiers of the Concacaf (Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football), will also compete. This body will define its final qualifier in April.

Maria Fernanda Reyes, Tamil Martino, Vania Torres, Itzel Delgado and Giannisa Vecco are Peruvian competitors in surfing.

Argentina, Puerto Rico, Cuba, and Peru have also qualified for baseball.
