Argentine Foreign Minister Jorge Taiana said Monday that President Cristina Fernandez’s state visit to Peru will help achieve the true potential of a strong and historical relationship between both countries.
Minister Jorge Taiana said that President Fernandez de Kirchner was "very excited and happy" at her arrival in Lima, where “many bilateral agreements will be signed and an important business meeting will take place" during her two-day visit.
"We will take this opportunity to achieve the full potential of a very strong and traditional relationship," he told reporters, commenting on the fact that this is the first visit by an Argentine head of state to Peru in 16 years.
"I think bilateral ties will be in a good condition at a political level. We have high expectations that this important visit will cement the historical relationship between Peru and Argentina," the foreign minister was quoted as saying by Telam.
President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, who arrived to Peru late at night yesterday, has a busy agenda today starting at 11:00 am (local time) when the Argentine president will meet her Peruvian counterpart Alan Garcia to sign a bilateral strategic partnership agreement.
After meeting Garcia, the president will conduct an open talk with 130 of the most significant business people of Peru to then have lunch with them.
The president has travelled with Ministers Debora Giorgi (Industry), Carlos Tomada (Labour), Nilda Garré (Defense), and Lino Barañao (Science and Technology), the Buenos Aires Herald reported.
