The Andean city of Arequipa is set to play host of this year's edition of "Alpaca Fiesta", an internationally renowned event aimed at promoting the value chain of the alpaca fiber, one of the world's finest and most luxurious natural fibers.

The international event is scheduled to take place from November 10th to 15th at the Cerro Juli Convention Center in Peru's southern region of Arequipa, well-known as the world center for fine camelid fiber.

Organized by the International Alpaca Association and Peru's Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism, "Alpaca Fiesta" will bring together prestigious national and international lecturers, experts in alpaca production and representatives from the most important companies of the alpaca fiber industry and indigenous tradition

The six-day event will feature conferences on alpaca breeding, fiber production and reproduction on manufacturing and industry of the alpaca fiber as well as alpaca fiber production and transformation workshops.

It will also offer fashion shows, tours of the area’s alpaca factories, a myriad of alpaca wool designs on sale as well as a business roundtable where 150 Peruvian export-oriented companies and 40 international buyers are expected to participate.

A show with the Andean nation's best alpaca specimens will also take place and breeders from different communities will receive awards from a specialized jury in genetics and production.

It is worth noting that Peru is the largest producer of alpaca with 85% share of the world market followed by Bolivia, Chile, New Zealand, Australia and North America.
