A declaration to contribute to the implementation of low-emission hydrogen in the Asia-Pacific region is expected to be approved this Friday, August 16, during the
Energy Ministerial Meeting (EMM) to be held in Lima, within the framework of
Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum activities.
Peru's Senior Official for APEC, Minister Renato Reyes Tagle, said that it will be a very important agreement for the country because it will open up opportunities for the export of two major products: hydrogen in the form of energy and fertilizers for agriculture, such as ammonium sulfate.
In that regard, the Peruvian official said this is a decisive week, adding that the document is expected to be approved by consensus.
"By holding the Presidency, Peru proposes and leads the agenda for the 21 APEC economies. The issues proposed by Peru must be negotiated paragraph by paragraph in a context where APEC faces geopolitical challenges," he told Andina News Agency.
In this regard, Reyes Tagle underscored that
during Peru's Presidency ministerial declarations within the framework of APEC are being approved by consensus, which was not the case two years ago.
Meanwhile, the Lima Convention Center is hosting the Third APEC Senior Officials' Meeting and related events from August 11 to 25.
Minister Reyes Tagle indicated that 139 meetings will be held in Lima and Trujillo, for which more than 2,000 delegates have signed up.
Peru is hosting APEC for the third time after the 2008 and 2016 editions.
