Peru’s Production Minister Jose Urquizo announced Friday that anchovy would add to the increasing list of Peruvian flagship products very soon.
The minister took part in the launch of the 4th Anchovy Week in Lima this morning.
Urquizo stated that people should include this species in their diet, as it has a high nutritional value.
The per capita consumption of anchovy in Peru is 22 kilograms, but a gradual increase is expected in the upcoming years, Urquizo said.
Moreover, he announced that Peru’s First Lady Nadine Heredia will offer a lunch next Monday in order to promote the direct consumption of anchovies, which are excellent sources of omega-3 oils.
