The United States Embassy in Peru on Monday highlighted the joint efforts of the U.S. and Peruvian Governments to combat corruption, also emphasizing details of the support provided by North American institutions to the host country's authorities for this purpose.

On International Anti-Corruption Day, the aforementioned diplomatic delegation called for reflection on the potential outcomes of joint efforts against this scourge.

"We highlight the joint efforts and the positive impact that each of us can make in creating a more just and transparent society," according to a video posted on social media.

U.S. Ambassador to Peru, Stephanie Syptak-Ramnath, appears in the video accompanying this reflection.

"We take a moment to reaffirm our shared commitment to fighting corruption," said the diplomat in a Spanish-language message regarding this matter.

The envoy noted that "the U.S. Embassy is proud to work with our Peruvian partners in the fight against corruption."

Likewise, she stated that her country's Government is working with the entities associated with it "to create a safer, more prosperous, and corruption-free Peru."

Specific tasks

In this regard, it is noted that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) works with companies and civil society organizations "to foster transparency and self-regulation in the private sector."

Similarly, USAID seeks to strengthen civil society's capacity to oversee public investments, it is stated.

Additionally, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Investigations Office supports the specialized investigative units of the Peruvian National Police (PNP), training them to address cases of crime and corruption.

In turn, the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) provides technical support to improve the money laundering and asset seizure system. It also trains members of the PNP and the Judiciary in anti-bribery matters.

Moreover, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) provides technical assistance to strengthen judicial capacities to combat complex crimes such as corruption.
