Peru has great prestige within the Organization of American States (OAS), the country's Permanent Representative to OAS Harold Forsyth said on Thursday, referring to the choice of Lima as the venue for the organization's next General Assembly in October 2022.

"The fact that Lima has been chosen as the venue for the 52nd General Assembly of the OAS by acclamation might be an indicator that we are doing something right," Forsyth said in an interview with RPP.

"I can testify that Peru has great prestige within the OAS: it is not an entity consisting of only one person; it comprises 34 countries, and we have an excellent working relationship based on respect," he emphasized.

According to Peru's Permanent Representative to OAS, Peru has won acclaim for its macroeconomic management, among other things.

"The economy minister takes it very seriously, as evidenced by his participation at the joint meeting of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB)," he added.

Political problems —Forsyth stated— are characteristic of the entire region, and Peru is not an exception.

The OAS General Assembly will be held this October, under the theme "Together against inequality and discrimination" and in the presence of 34 foreign affairs ministers, including U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

"It is a big challenge for Peru's foreign policy," he emphasized.
