Alianza Lima defender Carlos Zambrano, described his coach Nestor “Pipo” Gorosito as a strategist different from the rest the Victorian soccer club has had, as the most popular Peruvian team so far, is showing a positive performance in the Copa Libertadores 2025.

“Coach Gorosito is completely different from every coach we’ve had at Alianza, he has a different way of working”, said the 35-year-old center-back, regarding the Argentinian coach.

“Personally, I’m grateful for all the coaches who have passed through Alianza because I always took something positive from each of them, but today we’re with ‘Pipo’ and the group feels very comfortable. He’s someone who listens, is very open because he gives us our space and always seeks the opinion of all the teammates”, described Zambrano.

Zambrano confessed that it’s hard for him to go to training because he considers himself lazy and sluggish; however, he clarified that when it comes to pushing himself, he does it to the fullest.

“When money’s on the line, work is work,” he joked.

“I’m one of those players who doesn’t like going to training, but I do train well. I’m lazy and sluggish, but when it’s time to train, I push myself really well, because if that didn’t happen, I wouldn’t be at a relatively good level,” he said.

He also emphasized that coach Nestor Gorosito brings a completely different approach compared to previous ones in his position.

Zambrano, who received a red card in the recent match against Talleres, will miss Alianza Lima’s upcoming Copa Libertadores game against the Brazilian team Sao Paulo.

The match, the fourth round in Group ,D is set for Tuesday, May 6, at 5:00 p.m. at the Alejandro Villanueva Stadium in Lima.

Comments on his performance

Zambrano addressed recent commentary on his performances, making it clear that neither praise nor criticism sways him.

He didn’t hesitate to specify that criticism will never affect his emotional state because he has nothing to prove and, at this stage in his sporting career, nothing hurts him.

“We always have to take criticism, but sometimes it crosses a line. People forget that we have families behind us. I think journalists don’t care —it’s part of their job— but it gets uncomfortable for us as players and as people,” said Zambrano to L1 Max.

“Nothing hurts me, I don’t care about anything. Neither good criticism will raise me up, nor bad criticism will hit me. I have a mindset where I only fight with myself, because I don’t have to prove anything to anyone. The people who know me know that I’m very direct and upfront. I can make mistakes like everyone else, I accept my errors and I don’t need anyone to point them out,” he said.
