Peru's former President Alejandro Toledo is detained at Maguire Correctional Facility in San Mateo County, the United States, waiting to be transferred to the South American country by authorities.

"Indeed, this penitentiary center belongs to the San Jose Courthouse, which is where he was ordered to surrender. I understand that he is in the San Mateo (penitentiary) establishment because it is located closest to this courthouse," she said in remarks to Canal N on Friday night.

Former President Alejandro Toledo is already in the custody of United States authorities, as he turned himself in to them on Friday, to start the process of extradition to Peru where he is wanted by justice over corruption crimes.

Alejandro Toledo —who resided in the U.S.— is being investigated by the Peruvian justice for having allegedly received a bribe worth US$35 million from Brazilian construction companies to favor them in the bidding for the South Interoceanic Highway, while he was President of the Republic (2001-2006).
