7.6 Earthquake hits Eastern Peru

A 7.6 M earthquake on the Richter scale hit Eastern Peru’s Madre de Dios region at 17:45:38 (UTC-05:00), the US Geological Survey reported.

The epicenter was located 169 kilometers (105.01 miles) WNW of Iberia locality belonging to the Tahuamanu province.

Social media posts claimed the natural phenomenon was also felt in other regions of the country such as Cusco, Tacna, Puno, Arequipa, Junin and countries: Bolivia, Argentina and Chile.

A second 7.6 magnitude earthquake occurred at 17:50:52 (UTC-05:00).

Its epicenter was located in the Ucayali region 208 kilometers (129.45 miles) NW of Iberia.

No damage or injury was reported.
