2014 Beach Bolivarian Games now open in Northern Peru

The second edition of the Beach Bolivarian Games has started in Huanchaco.

The event aims at reuniting a total 652 athletes from 10 countries for 10 days.

The opening ceremony took place last night at Huanchaco’s sports center, once the Olympic Torch arrived at the venue. Huanchaco is a district located in the Northern city of Trujillo (La Libertad Region).

Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Venezuela, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Paraguay, El Salvador, Panama, Paraguay and hosting nation, Peru participate in the event.

155 Peruvian athletes have joined (64 female and 91 male). They aim at retaining the title earned in the first tournament’s first edition celebrated in Lima two years ago.

At the time, Peru won 46 medals (22 gold, 11 silver and 13 bronze), followed by Venezuela with 40 medals (18-11-11).

On this opportunity the sports program includes following disciplines: Underwater activities, open water swimming, waterskiing, beach soccer, beach handball, rowing, beach rugby, surf, beach tennis, sailing and beach volleyball.

Underwater fishing, rowing, sailing and water ski activities will be held in Lima.
