17 observation missions get accredited for general elections in Peru

The National Elections Board (JNE) has so far recognized 17 bodies and international organizations as electoral observers in order to supervise the conduct of Peru's general elections on April 11.

The Cooperation and International Affairs Commission of the JNE said that the Electoral Observation Mission of the Organization of American States (OAS) is made up of 26 members, which is the largest one. Its members come from 12 countries.

In turn, the Inter-American Union of Electoral Organizations (UNIORE), which brings together 11 organizations, has accredited 17 participants, who will arrive in the country in the coming days. 

For their part, three experts on electoral issues from the European Union (from Spain and Portugal) are already in Peruvian territory.

The Ecuadorian Human Rights Committee will also participate in the observation, bringing six observers, while the Ibero-American Association of Jurists will bring five.

Likewise, the Electoral Observatory of the Permanent Conference of Political Parties of Latin America and the Caribbean and the Observatory of Democracy of the Mercosur Parliament have each accredited four members.

The JNE reported that international observation missions will be able to supervise the installation of polling stations, voting booths, and the counting of votes.
