President Dina Boluarte on Monday stated that public investment in January 2025 reached historic levels, totaling S/3.157 billion (US$670 million), a 47% increase compared to January 2024.

"This is the news that really matters, the ones that Peruvians want to hear and have the right to demand from us (…) This important advance in public investment is the result of the technical support that the Ministry of Economy provides to improve the project execution, under the leadership of this president," she expressed.

The top official said this investment is due to the budgetary execution by local governments. Thus, she acknowledged mayors for the work they do to advance these public works.

"In January 2025, municipal expenditure reached S/850 million (US$180 million), which represents a growth of 117% compared to January 2024, 350% more than January 2022 and an impressive 2,000% more than in January 2019, pre-pandemic, when they invested only S/36 million (US$8 million)," she stated.

In this regard, the Head of State said her administration is promoting more investment than previous governments, "always with clean hands" and a clear conscience, as "there is no room for (public) works contaminated by criminal organizations."

"This outcome is the rebound effect of the work, effort, and dedication that mayors, regional governments, and the efforts we put into a strategy focused on increasing investment, creating more (public) works, and improving the quality of life," she pointed out.

Mrs. Boluarte added that the government has strengthened its support to municipalities through specialized virtual meetings to improve the execution, completion, and closure of investments, in addition to reactivating stalled projects, holding forums to provide solutions to unblock their initiatives, and receiving mayors at the Government Palace who came seeking help.

"But we have not only provided technical assistance; we have also allocated budget. In this government, we have increased the resources allocated to municipalities year after year in the Budget Law. It is no longer necessary for mayors to travel from their localities to Lima; we are promoting true economic decentralization, and today the results prove us right," she asserted.

Anchoveta Fishing Results

During the closing ceremony of the second fishing season 2024, the President disclosed that this campaign has closed with the capture of 2.42 million tons of anchoveta, one of the highest figures in the past decade.

This work -she said- generated more than US$1.41 billion in exports, along with 49,000 direct and indirect jobs.

"We are clearly a Government of deeds and results, and the numbers from this second anchoveta fishing season prove it. The government team is committed to transforming natural resources, creating decent employment, fostering sustainable economic growth, and ensuring the well-being of Peruvians," Mrs. Boluarte expressed.

The President stated that when the second fishing season began three months ago, the goal was very high and, through serious and responsible work by fishermen, businesspeople, and scientific researchers, a new milestone has been reached in this sector.

The top official said that anchovetas are not only a key asset for the fishing sphere but also a pillar of food security for thousands of Peruvians, which is why the government has the responsibility to preserve this resource with a vision for the future.
