The ministry's head led a working meeting on Tuesday in Chincha with Afro-Peruvian women leaders from various organizations, with the aim of strengthening institutional coordination to guarantee the full exercise of their rights and access to the services of said ministry.
During her presentation, the government official warned about the challenges faced by Afro-Peruvian women, especially in Ica, where four out of ten experience violence, many without reporting it due to fear or distrust.
Given this reality, the Cabinet member reported that the Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations (MWVP) has four Centros Emergencia Mujer (Women's Emergency Centers) in Chincha, which provide permanent support.
"Between January and April of this year, more than 570 cases of violence were addressed, and 54 economic assistance payments were granted to daughters and sons of femicide victims in the region," she reported.
Montellanos also shared other actions implemented, such as providing technical assistance to the regional government and the Provincial Municipality of Ica to strengthen their Gender Equality Commissions, as well as the "Governing Together" strategy, which promotes women's political participation.

"This space for dialogue is a concrete sign of our political will to move towards a more just and inclusive country," the minister said, reaffirming the MWVP’s commitment to the fight against racism, violence, and inequality.
The activity was held at the Chincha Cultural Center. It was also attended by Provincial Mayor Cesar Antonio Carranza Falla, who highlighted that 11 departments of his municipality are led by female citizens.
Organizations such as the Center for the Development of Afro-Peruvian Women (Cedemunep), the Micaela Bastidas association of Pueblo Nuevo, and other local Afro-descendant groups were present as well.
