The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Tuesday expressed the Government's recognition for the athletes qualified to participate in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Similarly, the top official detailed the additional prizes to be awarded to them in Peru if they obtain medals in their respective disciplines.

Each Peruvian athlete who wins a gold medal will be given a prize worth US$60,000, while those who claim silver and bronze medals will each be awarded with US$50,000 and US$40,000, respectively.

This incentive will also be extended to coaches. They will receive US$18,000 for each gold medal, US$15,000 for silver, and US$12,000 for bronze, she pointed out.

"We wish each of our 27 athletes every success and the Government's commitment to continue investing in sports," Mrs. Boluarte expressed.

Better infrastructure

The Head of State said the Education Ministry is committed to fostering greater development of sports activities in Peru.

Similarly, the top official indicated that this sector can manage, alongside regional governments, the use of infrastructure so that youth can engage in sports practices.

"We want to make Peru a country that values sports. This Government is committed to continue investing in champions," Mrs. Boluarte said.

Addressing the athletes who will travel to the French capital to participate in the Olympics, the president said that "each of your triumphs is our triumph."

However, she acknowledged that many times these victories are not accompanied by the presence of authorities, pointing out that "sometimes we are ungrateful" to athletes.

The symbolic farewell ceremony for the Olympic athletes was held at the Government Palace in the Peruvian capital, Lima.
