At a ceremony to commemorate International Women's Day,
stated that 77 activities have been carried out through consular offices in this first quarter to address the issue of violence against women and strengthen the protection of Peruvian female compatriots abroad.
During the event, the ambassador specified that of the more than three million Peruvians residing outside the country, 51.8% are women, who play a key role in their communities.
"Their organizational skills, influence, and hard work are evident in the fact that 139 of the 287 registered Peruvian associations abroad are led by women," he detailed.
Similarly, the diplomat reported that efforts to combat human trafficking continue to be strengthened through bilateral agreements, while progress is being made in negotiating social security agreements.
The ambassador explained that, thanks to these signed agreements, more than 500,000 Peruvians have accessed social security benefits, 300,000 of whom are women.
Regarding institutional organization, the ambassador mentioned that an internal culture has been strengthened through directives, training sessions, and concrete measures such as Wawa Wasi childcare centers and lactation rooms.
Moreover, he stated that the Gender Equality Working Group has been coordinating the cross-cutting integration of the gender approach since 2017, helping close inequality gaps.
Minister Schialer also mentioned that the Inca Garcilaso Cultural Center of the Foreign Affairs Ministry carried out 27 activities between 2023 and 2024, dedicated to highlighting women's contributions to culture.
In this regard, a program is taking place this month that includes screenings of films directed by renowned Peruvian filmmakers.
Minister Schialer concluded his speech by making a special mention of the female ambassadors who hold high-ranking positions within the institution and in international organizations, highlighting the "effort and commitment of all the women present here, as well as those who, from various fields and responsibilities, continue to drive essential changes in our society."
"Their leadership and determination mark the difference and inspire us to continue building a fairer, more inclusive world for all," he stated.
The ceremony was held at Torre Tagle Palace in the Peruvian capital, Lima, on Thursday. It was led by President Dina Boluarte and also attended by Women and Vulnerable Populations Minister Fanny Montellanos.
