Peruvian Congress Chairman Eduardo Salhuana on Friday indicated that he will cut short his trip to China and will only attend the invitation from the National People's Assembly to strengthen the parliamentary observatory and other initiatives.

In a message posted on Congress' social media channels, Salhuana stated that this was an agreement reached at the Legislative APEC for the People event in 2024.

During his trip -he announced- the Parliamentary Observatory will be strengthened, along with legislative initiatives such as private special economic zones, connectivity, investments, tourism, and others.

"Therefore, we will shorten our agenda, and I will return to the country (Peru) as soon as possible," Salhuana pointed out.

Last Thursday, the Congress head confirmed his trip to China, from January 5 to 10, along with a delegation of parliamentarians.

Salhuana explained that the agenda included official meetings in two Chinese cities, a meeting at the National People's Assembly, visits to special economic zones, ports, electric vehicle factories, among others.

On the trip, he will be joined by legislators Lady Camones; José Williams; Luis Cordero Jon Tay, Chairman of the Peru-China Parliamentary Friendship League; and Auristela Obando, Chairwoman of the Foreign Affairs Committee.

The trip by Peru's Congress Head to China will take place amid questioning from parliamentarian Juan Burgos, Chair of the Oversight Committee.

Burgos believes that the trip is inappropriate given the complaint about an alleged prostitution ring that might had been set up at Congress, a matter that is being investigated by the Prosecutor's Office.
