The Peru-Egypt Sixth Political Consultations Mechanism took place in Cairo on April 22, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

The Peruvian side was headed by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Eric Anderson.

He was accompanied by Director General for Africa, Middle East, and Gulf Countries, Ambassador Jorge Raffo, as well as Peru's Ambassador to Egypt, Miguel Aleman.

The Egyptian side was led by Assistant Foreign Minister for the Americas, Ambassador Khaled Azmy.

It is worth highlighting the reactivation of this political dialogue forum after an 11-year gap.

During the session, both delegations highlighted the solidity of bilateral relations, as well as the dynamism of trade, which reached record figures last year, consolidating Egypt as a key partner of Peru in North Africa.

Likewise, contact points between the Chambers of Commerce were updated, and the parties agreed to promote seminars aimed at private companies to explore new business opportunities.

The meeting made it possible to coordinate positions on priority issues in the global agenda and strengthen Peru's presence in that strategic African country.

In the area of technical and cultural cooperation, both sides agreed to boost initiatives in the fields of youth and sports, library cooperation, and collaboration between Culture ministries, infrastructure, and city twinning, including projects linking Trujillo and Chiclayo (Peru) with Giza (Egypt).

The parties also agreed to work toward promoting city twinning between Lima and Cairo, historic capitals and cradles of ancient civilizations.

Furthermore, the Peruvian side delivered a draft Memorandum of Understanding on food security.

In that context, the session was highly productive and made it possible to reaffirm the willingness to finalize negotiations on the remaining agreements.

Moreover, both sides agreed that the Seventh Political Consultations Mechanism will be held on October 7, 2028, the date marking the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Peru and Egypt.

The Egyptian side also reiterated its invitation for Peru's Foreign Affairs Minister to visit that country in the near future.
