Peru: President Balcazar's government recognizes women's struggle and resilience

The President of the Republic, Jose Maria Balcazar, took part in the Order of Merit of Women 2026 award ceremony, where 15 honorees were recognized for their commitment to defending rights and promoting equal opportunities for men and women.

During this event, the Head of State highlighted women's role in society and the need to continue promoting actions to guarantee their rights.

"It gives me a sense of calm to think about the long historical struggle of women to achieve equality with men;  brutal struggles, hardship, and imprisonment," the top official said in his speech, highlighting the well-deserved tribute to women on this day.

Likewise, the top official underscored the importance of continuing to foster public policies aimed at the promotion, protection, and restoration of women's rights.

"The government recognizes the struggle and resilience of Peruvian women," the Presidential Office said on its social media accounts.

This ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Denisse Miralles and Women-Vulnerable Populations Minister Hary Yzarra, among other authorities.

The event was held as part of activities marking International Women's Day, observed every March 8. 

It took place at the Government Palace Great Dining Hall in Lima.
