The National Elections Board's (JNE) Plenary unanimously declared the holding of complementary elections within the framework of the 2026 General Elections process to be unviable.

In a statement, the top electoral body reported it had received requests from various political sectors seeking the calling of "complementary elections" before the presidential runoff (June 7), regarding certain polling tables and constituencies in Metropolitan Lima affected by delays in electoral material delivery.

The JNE recalled that this situation arose following incidents recorded in the deployment of those supplies and due to the organization of the electoral process under the responsibility of the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE), which led to the adoption of extraordinary measures — such as extending voting hours on April 12 and prolonging voting into April 13 at polling tables that had not been installed.

In that regard, the JNE Plenary, following the corresponding technical and legal review and in light of reports issued by the competent bodies, unanimously agreed to declare complementary elections unviable within the framework of the current 2026 electoral process.

The electoral process remains underway and has not concluded, the board emphasized.

In that context, the JNE, through the Special Electoral Boards (JEE) and its Plenary, has been continuously reviewing challenged electoral records, resolving nullity appeals, and carrying out other actions provided for under the current constitutional, legal, and regulatory framework, in strict respect for the principles of preclusion, legal certainty, and electoral legality.

The JNE reaffirmed that it will continue exercising its jurisdictional function with firmness, independence, and transparency, guaranteeing the integrity of the electoral process and full respect for the popular will expressed at the ballot boxes.

Finally, it called on citizens to remain calm and obtain information through official channels, while urging political organizations to act responsibly.
