President Boluarte: Potential for new cooperation areas between Peru and Indonesia

In the context of the State visit by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, President Dina Boluarte on Thursday emphasized the significant potential for expanding areas of cooperation between Peru and Indonesia.

Remarks were made during a working meeting attended by senior officials from both governments, including ministers responsible for key topics of mutual interest between the two nations.

The top official expressed confidence that the outcomes achieved today will enable both nations to advance in their goal of deepening bilateral relations, which already enjoy an excellent level. Similarly, she emphasized the commitment to continue strengthening these ties.

Mrs. Boluarte underscored that Peru shares similarities with Indonesia in terms of biodiversity and multiculturalism.

Additionally, she noted that in 2023, Indonesia was Peru's eighth-largest trading partner in Asia, making it an attractive market for Peruvian producers due to its population of over 273 million people.

The Head of State expressed keen interest in the economic and social priorities set by Prabowo Subianto's administration, and conveyed Peru's best wishes for the development of Indonesia's new capital, Nusantara.

"Given the economic strength of both our nations, which continue on a path of steady growth and development, there is significant potential for new areas of cooperation," she emphasized.

Moreover, Mrs. Boluarte noted that the meeting would cover topics such as the upcoming 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) which will mark a historic milestone with a view to boosting growth—, as well as the launch of the Chancay Megaport, among other subjects.


Honorary Award and Agreement Signing

Following the meeting, President Boluarte honored her Indonesian counterpart with the Order of the Sun of Peru, during a ceremony held at the Government Palace Golden Hall.

Additionally, both governments signed an agreement to waive visa requirements for diplomatic, special, and service passports.

Lastly, the Peruvian President further expressed that it would be an honor to undertake a State visit to the Southeast Asian nation, following the invitation extended by her Indonesian counterpart.
