Representatives of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum's diplomatic missions in Peru participated in the opening ceremony of the "II APEC Inter-Embassy Confraternity Softball Tournament Peru 2024 – 125 Years of Japanese Immigration to Peru."
This event has been organized by
La Union Stadium Association (AELU), the Peruvian-Japanese Association (APJ), and the Foreign Affairs Ministry's APEC Peru 2024 Presidency Working Group.
"Today marks the beginning of not only a great sports tournament. A space is also beginning that will allow us to continue advancing in the ties of friendship, unity, and integration among all participating teams from Australia, Canada, Chile, South Korea, the United States, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, and Peru," said Edgar Araki, Chairman of the 125 Years of Japanese Immigration Organizing Commission.
APEC Peru 2024 Presidency Working Group Chair, Ambassador Carlos Chavez-Taffur, underscored that the tournament is part of the activities included in
APEC Ciudadano (APEC for the People) —an initiative developed by the
Foreign Affairs Ministry that seeks to bring the benefits of the Asia-Pacific forum closer to citizens.
Present at the inauguration were the heads of mission of the Embassies of Australia, Canada, Chile, Korea, the United States, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, and Thailand, who were invited to give the honorary play by hitting a softball as part of the event.
This event took place recently at the AELU baseball field in the Peruvian capital, Lima.
