International tourist arrivals in Peru up 39.2% in Jan-Aug 2024

The arrival of international tourists in Peru increased by 39.2% between January and August of this year, compared to the figures recorded during the same period in 2023, Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Desilu Leon reported.

The Cabinet member highlighted that a total of 2,178,302 international tourists arrived in Peru during these eight months of 2024 to enjoy its various destinations and tourist attractions.

"This proves once again that there is interest in our country. Peru is a paradise for cultural, nature, and adventure tourism. As a Government, we are working on a policy to position the country as an important destination for high-value specialized segments," she highlighted.

In this regard, Minister Leon added that Peru has potential spaces for bird watching and community tourism, among other activities.

The Cabinet member also noted that turning tourism into a prosperous sector requires coordinated and collaborative efforts by multiple actors at various levels of the Peruvian State and the private sector.

According to a recent report by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), based on information provided by the National Superintendence of Migrations, 67% of the total number of international tourists who entered Peru between January and August are Chileans (484,978), U.S. citizens (411,210), Ecuadorians (200,272), Bolivians (123,787), Brazilians (123,323), and Colombians (108,359).

"Among the tourist-sending markets that have already surpassed pre-pandemic levels of visits to our country are Brazil (+6.3%), Costa Rica (+20.3%), the Dominican Republic (+31.1%), Poland (+17.9%), India (+12.4%), among others," she added.

The report also indicates that, at the regional level, 52.1% of the total number of international tourists who visited Peru come from South America.

North America accounted for 24.2% of tourists, followed by Europe 16.5%, Asia 3.8%, and Central America 2.5%.
