Peru's former FA Minister Jose Antonio Garcia Belaunde passes away

Former Foreign Affairs Minister Jose Antonio Garcia Belaunde passed away on Friday at the age of 77.

Recognized for his distinguished diplomatic career, Garcia Belaunde served as Minister of Foreign Affairs during Alan Garcia's second presidential administration (2006–2011).

From 2011 to 2014, he acted as Peru's co-agent before the International Court of Justice at The Hague for the maritime delimitation case between Peru and Chile.

During this time, negotiations were promoted for Peru's integration into the Pacific Alliance, along with various trade agreements and the conclusion of talks for the Trade Agreement with the European Union.

The approval by the U.S. Congress of the United States–Peru Trade Promotion Agreement (FTA) was also achieved, and he promoted the agreement within the framework of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR).

Government authorities, politicians, and close friends expressed their sorrow and extended condolences to his family.
