President Dina Boluarte on Thursday stated that the new Tourism Law will be a key step toward the sustainable, inclusive, and competitive development of this sector, which is essential for the South American country's growth.

"It is time to show that we are ready to welcome more tourists who wish to visit Peru. Therefore, we must continue working together —the public and private sectors— to ensure that tourism is sustainable, inclusive, and accessible to all," she stated.

The top official indicated that the new General Tourism Law aims to formalize at least 5,000 new tourism service providers in special tourism development zones by 2030, which will generate 34,000 new jobs.

"It will help reduce informal supply by 30% in priority destinations through controls and support for micro and small enterprises; additionally, over 5,900 tourism companies could benefit from the early General Sales Tax recovery scheme, compared to fewer than 1,000 under the previous system," she highlighted.

In this context, the top official noted that the projected goal for 2030 is over US$1 billion in new public and private tourism investments, which will generate more than US$17 billion in economic activity —over 52% more than the amount recorded in 2024.

"Nothing can stop Peru or its tourism sector —especially when we work together: the Legislative (Branch), the Executive (Branch), institutions, academics, all of you in the private sector, those involved in day-to-day efforts, tour guides—everyone. We all contribute to making Peru a different and better place," she pointed out.

After thanking Congress for passing the law, President Boluarte said the new Tourism Law represents a structural shift in the way tourism is promoted in Peru, aiming to attract over 5 million tourists per year by 2030.

"Our Peru is a privileged destination with an unparalleled cultural richness, with wonders such as Machu Picchu and a cuisine that has rightfully placed us on the international map. It is time to show that we are ready to welcome more tourists wishing to visit Peru," she noted.

To that end, she said, the public and private sectors must continue working together to ensure that tourism is sustainable, inclusive, and accessible to all.

The top official reiterated that the Government remains firmly committed to supporting all sectors, protecting heritage, and ensuring that tourism growth benefits everyone, especially the most vulnerable segments.

"A tourism model that respects our natural and cultural resources and drives the local economy without compromising the future of coming generations. That kind of tourism is possible, and together we are working to make it a reality," she asserted.

The ceremony was held at the Government Palace in the Peruvian capital, Lima. It was attended by Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Desilu Leon and Congress Chairman Eduardo Salhuana.
