stated that the Tia Maria project has the most advanced profile among the country's mining initiatives and that construction work could begin in 2025.
"We think that Tia Maria is a project that is making the necessary decisions to enter the construction phase this year. There is no more time to lose; it is a mature initiative," he said in an interview with the Red de Comunicación Regional (RCR).
The Cabinet member emphasized that the venture has achieved strong social coordination with the local community and has made accurate environmental decisions.
Likewise, the government official highlighted that Tia Maria includes the construction of a reservoir with a capacity of nearly 50 million cubic meters, aimed at supplying water to agricultural and livestock producers.
"Tia Maria is a project that has also managed to establish social coordination with local communities, as it includes a proposal to build a reservoir of nearly 50 million cubic meters to provide water to both agricultural producers and agro-exporters, as well as to generate local employment and business opportunities," he noted.
The minister stressed that the venture should not be delayed any further, as it demonstrates both technical and social maturity.
Similarly, Montero reiterated the government's willingness to promote dialogue among the Peruvian State, the company, and communities, with transparency and consensus.
"The goal is to ensure that conditions are clearly defined before construction begins in 2025, making the most of this decisive moment to advance sustainable and responsible mining," he underscored.
The Tia Maria project —located in the province of Islay (Arequipa region)— is part of 51 mining initiatives in Peru, which together represent a total investment of US$54.556 billion.
