This important international responsibility is undertaken through the coordinated work of the Peruvian Ministry with the relevant sectors.
It will allow Peru to directly influence the implementation of the Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies, an instrument aimed at eliminating subsidies that encourage illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
"Thanks to this role, the country will be able to channel technical cooperation for the benefit of its fishing communities and strengthen the sustainable use of its marine resources," the Ministry stated.
Peru was one of the first countries in the world to ratify the Agreement in 2023, reaffirming its commitment to promoting fair trade that protects marine biodiversity and ensures the livelihood of millions of people who depend on fishing.
This recognition strengthens Peru's international standing and reflects its leading role in ocean governance, responsible trade, and the fight against illegal fishing, directly benefiting the Peruvian people and future generations.
