on Friday confirmed the attendance of His Majesty King Felipe VI of Spain at the opening of the
, to be held in October in the city of Arequipa, southern Peru.
The Peruvian government official highlighted that this once again places Peru on the international stage.
"We have invited His Majesty King Felipe VI of Spain, and his attendance at the inauguration has been confirmed. This places Peru on the international stage," he stated in an interview with RPP Noticias.
Likewise, the diplomat mentioned that the event's logo will be the "Quilca Camayoc" by Guaman Poma de Ayala, as a symbol of the transition from orality to writing and of Peru’s linguistic blending.
Furthermore, Minister Schialer highlighted that the event will address key topics such as cultural blending, interculturality, plain language, and digital cultures.
A tribute will also be paid to the late Nobel Literature laureate Mario Vargas Llosa, the main advocate for Arequipa being chosen as the host city of the event.
"He was the driving force behind the effort to hold the congress here in 2023, but due to social issues, it had to be postponed," Schialer explained.
Peru is now preparing to host this important forum for reflection on the Spanish language, he said.
