Following instructions from the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday presented a formal note of protest to the Embassy of the Republic of Colombia, expressing its strongest and most energetic rejection of the overflight of a Colombian aircraft in national airspace.

The document indicated that the entry of the Colombian military aircraft occurred while Peruvian authorities and civilians were participating in civic activities in Santa Rosa de Loreto district, causing surprise and indignation.

Similarly, the note of protest stated that "the explanations provided by Colombia so far have not been satisfactory."

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs considers the incident a serious violation of territorial sovereignty and reminded that any foreign military aircraft must have prior overflight permission granted by Peruvian authorities," it pointed out.

Likewise, the document "demanded full satisfaction and guarantees that a similar situation will not occur again" to safeguard the historic ties of bilateral cooperation and integration.

"The Government of Peru reaffirms that the defense of its sovereignty and respect for international law are unwavering principles of its foreign policy, and emphasizes that it expects a prompt response from Colombian authorities that will contribute to preserving mutual trust and good neighborliness between the two countries," it added.
