The new “Paths of Pope Leo XIV” aims to boost cultural, gastronomic, and religious tourism in Peru while diversifying its offerings, Foreign Affairs Minister Elmer Schialer stated during the official launch of the government initiative.

The presentation ceremony —led by President Dina Boluarte— was held on Monday simultaneously in Chulucanas (Piura), Chiclayo, Trujillo, and Callao —the places visited by Pope Leo XIV during his pastoral work in Peru.

Minister Schialer took part in the presentation of this route in Callao, alongside the heads of the Ministries of Education, Interior, Agrarian Development and Irrigation, and Environment.

This initiative pays tribute to the recent election of Cardinal Robert Prevost as the new Supreme Pontiff, now known as Pope Leo XIV, a U.S. citizen naturalized in Peru.

"The identification of His Holiness with the Peruvian people is a milestone of historical significance for our country and has projected Peru's image on the global stage," Schialer emphasized.

The diplomat reaffirmed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' firm support, through its network of embassies and consulates, for the promotion of this initiative.

He stated that this route will help consolidate Peru as an important destination for religious tourism, making a significant contribution to the diversification of the country's tourism offerings and to the sector’s growth and development

The creation of the "Paths of Pope Leo XIV" is the outcome of a joint and coordinated effort among various sectors of the Executive Branch, regional and municipal governments, tourism associations, and ecclesiastical authorities.

The route includes important ecclesiastical sites such as the San Jose Cathedral in Callao, the Chiclayo Cathedral, the Archdiocese of Trujillo, and the Matriz de Santo Domingo Church in Piura, among others.
