During Peruvian President Dina Boluarte's official visit to Japan, Foreign Affairs Minister Elmer Schialer met with his Japanese counterpart, Takeshi Iwaya, to reaffirm and strengthen the excellent bilateral relations.

The meeting highlighted the dynamic work agenda driven by the Strategic Partnership established in 2016.

Likewise, it underscored the significant progress of the Peru-Japan Roadmap, adopted in 2024, demonstrating the mutual commitment to deepen trade and cooperation ties.

In just eight months, 10 commitments were fulfilled, including the reinstatement of visa exemption for Peru's citizens, business rounds, investment promotion events, and the 16th Meeting of the Peruvian-Japanese Business Council (CEPEJA).

Similarly, the possibility of increasing Japanese investments in Peru was addressed, focusing mainly on infrastructure and mining.

Minister Schialer mentioned an investment portfolio of 28 projects worth over $8.2 billion, with a projection of 48 additional projects by 2026.

Likewise, he emphasized the existence of a robust regulatory framework to protect these investments.

Furthermore, the diplomat highlighted the South American country's export potential, noting that Peru is the world's leading exporter of fresh blueberries for the fourth consecutive year.

He also expressed the expectation that this product will soon enter the Japanese market, complementing other Peruvian products already present such as table grapes, mangoes, and avocados.

In turn, the Japanese Foreign Affairs Minister emphasized his desire to further strengthen relations with Peru —an important country with over 150 years of friendly diplomatic ties and home to the second-largest Japanese immigrant and descendant community in South America.

As a gesture of cooperation, both ministers exchanged notes for 300 million yen (approximately US$2.2 million) aimed at the acquisition of goods and services for Peru.

Additionally, Ambassador Schialer expressed gratitude for the donation of ten fire trucks to Peru, a gesture that strengthens solid cooperation in disaster risk management.
