President Dina Boluarte on Friday announced the launch of the major Lambayeque Industrial Park project, a strategic initiative that will drive the development of Peru's northern region and holds great potential to attract investments.

The top official noted that in the coming days, the Executive branch has the mission of completing the transfer of the land where the Industrial Park will be located to Lambayeque Region Government, a decisive and concrete step to make this project a reality.

"This is a strategic initiative with great vision, which will boost the development of the country's north and has the potential to strengthen the regional economy, attract private investment, and generate employment in key sectors such as agro-industry, manufacturing, and exports," she said.

The Head of State thanked Congress for approving Law No. 31514, which declares the Industrial Park a matter of public necessity and national interest, positioning Lambayeque as a strategic hub in the northern macro-region.

"From this moment, this project ceases to be a promise and will now become a reality that will transform this region and the entire northern part of the country," Mrs. Boluarte stated.

"This is the commitment and work of our government, with a national vision, political determination, and the will to advance the development of our homeland," she pointed out.

The President made this announcement during the inauguration of the solid and inorganic waste recovery and recycling plant in the Lambayeque region, a project that entailed an investment of S/25 million (US$7.07 million).

An additional S/10 million (US$2.20 million) has been invested in trucks, compactors, dump trucks, sorting systems, and specialized machinery.

On this matter, the Head of State said that the government is aware that protecting the environment is protecting life.

"That is why every step we take in the responsible management of our waste means less pollution, better health, and a brighter future for our children," Mrs. Boluarte asserted.

The top official mentioned that Peru generates over 23,000 tons of solid waste daily, adding that its improper disposal has been a serious problem for years.

"By 2024 alone, 2,748 degraded areas caused by dumpsites were reported," she said.

In response, Mrs. Boluarte indicated that the government aims to manage waste properly, which involves not only cleaning the streets but also protecting family health, safeguarding ecosystems, and strengthening the circular economy.

"In this regard, I want to highlight the effort carried out through the Punche Perú (Peru with Strength) program, which has allowed us to realize the project to improve and expand public cleaning services in urban areas of Lambayeque province, benefiting more than 137,000 residents," she asserted.

According to her, the project includes the construction of a sanitary landfill with four cells to receive over 320,000 tons of solid waste in its first five-year phase; an organic waste recovery plant with a capacity of 11 tons per day; and a processing area for inorganic waste, where 16 tons will be processed daily.

"This is a qualitative leap in waste management in Lambayeque," she pointed out.
