The President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, held an audience with Emperor Naruhito in Japan on Friday.

The dignitaries discussed the long cultural tradition shared by both countries and the opportunity to continue strengthening the friendship that has united them for more than 150 years.

According to Mrs. Boluarte's schedule, this meeting was held at the Imperial Palace.

Previously, Peru's Foreign Affairs Minister Elmer Schialer highlighted the special audience granted to the Head of State.

The Cabinet member indicated that such meetings are usually held with the Prime Minister of Japan; however, Emperor Naruhito chose to receive the Peruvian President.

"Very few heads of state, especially Latin American ones, have received such treatment, which we highly value," the Peruvian diplomat noted.

The most recent meeting between a Japanese imperial family member and Peru's top official took place on November 7, 2023.

On that date, Her Imperial Highness, Princess Kako, was received at the Government Palace in Lima on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Peru and Japan.

Earlier today, President Boluarte also met with Japan's Prime Minister, Shigeru Ishiba.

Both leaders agreed on the importance of boosting and expanding business presence in sectors such as infrastructure, renewable energy, sanitation, transportation, agro-export, and the environment.
