08:46 | Lima, Jul. 25.

Within the framework of the Independence Day celebrations, the National Superintendence of Migrations has granted more than 2,000 Peruvian nationality certificates since January 2023 to individuals born abroad, during emotional ceremonies.

The main pathways through which the new compatriots were naturalized include marriage (74.35%), naturalization (20.65%), and recovery of nationality (3%), among others.

The aforementioned citizens come from various countries across the Americas (75.99%), Europe (17.53%), Asia (4.35%), Africa (1.88%), and Oceania (0.25%).

The 18 to 29 age group accounts for 5.58%, those aged 30 to 39 make up 38.74%, and individuals between 40 and 49 represent 31.51%.

Among naturalized citizens through marriage, 15.97% are aged 50 to 59, while 8.20% are over 60.

Most of the individuals met and fell in love with a Peruvian under various circumstances; in some cases, language, culture, or distance were not obstacles for the romantic relationship to lead to marriage and, years later, to naturalization.

Naturalization ceremonies are held not only in Metropolitan Lima, but also organized in various cities such as Arequipa, Trujillo, Cusco, Iquitos, Tarapoto, Chimbote, Piura, Chiclayo, Tacna, Puno, Tumbes, among others.

As part of Peru's Independence Day commemoration, the National Superintendence of Migrations held a new naturalization ceremony.

During the event, it granted Peruvian citizenship to 20 individuals from countries across four continents, including Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, the United States, Panama, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Belgium, Belarus, Spain, the Netherlands, Russia, China, India, and Egypt.

Of this total, 12 certificates were granted through naturalization, six through marriage, one through recovery of nationality, and one to the child of a foreign national born abroad who has been residing in Peru since the age of five.

The event was attended by Interior Minister Carlos Malaver and National Migrations Superintendent Armando Garcia.

Garcia stated that naturalization ceremonies are a demonstration of the love and respect felt for our country, as well as a willingness to work together to build a prosperous future for all.
